About Our Judges

JON MERRITT is a percussion teacher in the NEISD school district of San Antonio Texas. Jon is graduate of Ohio University in Athens Ohio. He also marched with the Cadets Drum and Bugle corps in 1991, 1992 and 1993. Jon was the percussion section leader for the World Champion Cadets Drum Corps in 1993. He also enjoys performing with Several Brass Bands and Orchestras. After graduating from Ohio University with his Music Education Degree Jon has been a band director for 13 years in Columbus Ohio. He just recently moved to Texas, and is extremely excited to be Teaching and Performing with some of the finest educators in the country.

 

 

RAY ULIBARRI is a percussion instructor at Reagan High School in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Ulibarri is currently the Percussion Arranger for the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corp. Prior to this, he was the Caption Head of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps and the front ensemble arranger and caption head of the Blue Knights World Percussion Ensemble. Both groups are recognized as innovators in the world of percussion and have placed in the top three in the world. Mr. Ulibarri is an active music adjudicator and clinician throughout the country. He also studied with Ralph Hardimon, Gray Barrier, Doug Walter, Doug Rosener, Amy Smith, and Mark Foster. He is endorsed by Innovative Percussion, Evans, Zildjian, and Yamaha.

 

 

MICHAEL ZELLERS  is the electronics designer for the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps. Prior to his work with Boston, MIchael worked at the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps on the percussion staff from 2011-2015. In 2013-2015, Michael also served as the electronics designer for the Cadets in addition to his instruction role. Michael’s background in electronic music grew from academic study at the University of Delaware, where he received a MM in Music performance. During this time, he developed a passion for blending acoustic percussion and electronic sources in live performance. In addition to his work as an electronics designer for bands and drum corps, he is the Percussion Director at Leander High School in Leander, Texas.
